Luxe Go Boho This Christmas
Posted on
This year Christmas is going to be different. No more gaudy, plastic ornamentation. No more perfect, featureless, fake tree. No more high vis, hyper colour wrapping paper, and ribbons. What you want this year is elegance and a touch of coastal boho.
Here’s how.
Natural Elements
There’s no better way to say goodbye to plastic this Christmas than to fill your home with celebrations of nature.
For starters, get a real tree. A real-life, growing, living, breathing tree - well it won’t be living once you have it at home. But at least it has contributed to absorbing greenhouse gases and gifting us with oxygen. Real trees are also renewable, recyclable and, as a kicker, they infuse your home with genuine forest fragrance. But you don’t have to go down the traditional fir tree path. Chuck the tree out altogether and get creative with a natural alternative like a bean pole teepee or a drooping willow branch.
Pine cones have traditionally been used as natural Christmas decorations. They can be made into ornaments for the tree or as table setting decorations. Dried wildflowers are perfect natural Christmas elements to give that Australian summer feel. Callistemon, gum nuts, billy buttons, paper daisies, and coastal grasses work perfectly. Throw into the mix some organic textures like cotton, linen, or jute and natural or whitewashed timber accessories and your set.
Boho Ornaments
If you take the real tree option then you're going to want to decorate it. But steer clear of flashy splashy tinsel and mirror ball ornaments. Instead, take your cue from other cultures around the world - make a long garland, marigold or other and adorn you tree generously with it or string up some shell necklace decor. Hanging lanterns like these rustic ones are the perfect alternative to those garishly shiny baubles or replace them with blush cotton tassels with stone and silver beads. To get real boho, dangle some dream catchers or macrame from those oh so piney branches.
Now that your tree is sorted. It’s time to set and style the table. Seagrass table runners are the perfect place to start, establishing a foundation for all that natural texture layering. Add some macrame on top for a genuine boho centerpiece and beach it all up with fringed, undyed raffia placemats.
Lights
It’s just not Christmas without lights - the softer and warmer and shimmerier the better.
Take some boho Christmas cheer to every nook of your living spaces with votive candles. Group together with different styles and sizes for that caroling choir feeling. Warm-up your table setting and buck the religious trend at the same time with golden lotus tealights. On top of it all, go all out with a luxe, uber elegant macrame chandelier like this one.
Stringing up some solar-powered fairy lights will create just the right amount of Christmas eye candy attention from passersby.
Printed Cushions and Rugs
Say no to Santa and reindeer sacks and stockings and yes to woolen rugs, tribal print cushions, and vintage eastern kilims.
Get a large coastal Polynesian fringed rug to place under your tree to establish its place of prominence amongst your furniture and homewares. Invite friends and family to sit and relax during gift-giving times with byzantine bolster pillows and tufted throws. Or have them ready to take to the beach for a bohemian take on the quintessential Australian x-mas day jaunt.
And to top it all off Luxe Coastal boho style - crown that Chrissy tree with a Juju hat - because why not. Yep, this Christmas sure is going to be different
We are excited to extend our range of boho coastal home wares to now include a collection of Nursery and Baby lines.
Our range of Nursery and Baby lines include our gorgeous Cot Canopy's. These Cot Canopy's are from the quality designer brand Almirose and come in a range of contemporary colours and include hanging tulle pom poms to match the canopy and complete the designer look nursery. Canopy's are also a beautiful piece to add to a tweens or teenagers room, hang over the corner of the bed to create a floaty girly oasis.
We all love getting away to a tropical resort where there is a relaxed coastal style living and you can achieve the same coastal style by keeping your colour palette to a white, neutral or cool tones, like sage or blue. Include lots of texture and natural fibres like rattan, raffia, sea grass, carved wood and white and lots of greenery. Indoor plants with lush green leaves in a rattan planter or raffia basket is a quick an easy start. Layering your coastal decor pieces with taller items to the back and lower items to the front and overlapping them, sometimes more is more! And of course shells are a must, whether you collect them from the beach or purchase them, they come in many different styles. Shell crosses for the wall, Juju Hats made from feathers with shell centres, shell balls, Halo style pieces on a stand, shell garlands or baskets adorned with shells and of course our Large Clam Shells filled with your favourite treasures or on their own they are a perfect coastal statement piece.
